posterior abdominal viscera & wall Flashcards
psoas major
Insertion- lesser trochanter of femur
function- flex thigh and trunk
branches of femoral nerve
iliacus
insertion- lesser trochanter of femur
function- flex thigh and stabilize hip joint with psoas major
branch of femoral nerve
dome shaped, anything that has to transit from thorax to abdomen has to go in front or behind
diaphragm
quadratus lumborum
primary action is pulling hip up on one side, not flexing the knee, extends from inferior border of 12th rib and tips of lumbar transverse processes to iliac crest
functions- extend and laterally flex vertebral column
paired arteries (off aorta)
inferior phrenic, suprarenal, renal, gonadal, lumbar, common iliac
unpaired branches
celiac trunk, superior mesenteric artery, inferior mesenteric artery, median sacral artery
major tributes to the IVC (venous drainage)
right gonadal vein (drain into IVC), right & left renal veins, right & left common iliac veins, hepatic veins
tributes of left renal vein
left gonadal vein (drain into renal vein, not IVC)
iliohypogastric & ilio-inguinal
to abdominal muscles and skin of pubic and inguinal regions
lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh
to skin on the anteriolateral surface of the thigh
genitofemoral
motor to the cremaster muscle and sensory to skin inferior and medial to inguinal ligament
obturator
to thigh adductor muscles, from lumbar plexus
femoral
to hip flexor and knee extensor muscles
lumbosacral trunk
formation of sacral plexus with the anterior rami of S1-S4 nerves, sciatic nerve
abdominal aortic aneurysm
rupture of an aneurysm of the abdominal aorta causes severe pain in abdomen or back, 90% mortality rate due to heavy blood loss
