Phraseology verbs
A
This category refers to verbs which are used to add more information about an action (usually its beginning, process or end) and, for this reason, they can somehow be regarded as some sort of “support verbs”. You are probably already familiar with them and here are some of the most common (notice in particular the preposition they go together with):
cominciare / iniziare a + infinitive: to start (doing something)
continuare / andare avanti a + infinitive: to continue (doing something)
finire /smettere di + infinitive: to stop (doing something)
stare per + infinitive: to be about (to do something)
essere sul punto di + infinitive: to be on the verge (of doing something) stare + gerund: to be doing something
