NO decongestants, antihistamines, antitussives, expectorants - just let it out

o sit upright
o pressure at Keisselbach’s triangle for 10 MINUTES
o ice
Where is Keisselbach’s triangle?
End of the the bony ridge of the nose where blood vessels converge
Acronym for symptoms suggestive of strep throat
FLEA
Fever
Lack of cough
Exudate of tonsillar area
Anterior cervical adenopathy
presence of any one warrants strep culture
this is a SENSITIVE TEST - all negative rules strep out
Treatment for STREP THROAT
Penicillin VK (“K for KIDS”, and potassium)
if allergic to PCN - Erythromicin
Sudden, severe swelling of the epiglottis that occurs as a result of a bacterial infection
epiglottitis
Peak age of incidence for epiglottitis
6 - 10 years of age
Management of epiglottitis
Immediate hospitalization
Intubation
IV 3rd gen cephalosporin until pathogen identified
