(Parvo=Small)
1. Parvovirinae and
- Densovirinae
(infect arthropods = unimportant-crop protection)
- Genera:
- Densovirus
- Brevivirus
2

Genera Parvoviridae
A
Parvovirus Amdovirus Bocavirus Erthythrovirus Dependovirus
3
Q
Morphology
A
Non-Enveloped
Icosahedral capsid
ssDNA (linear)
4
Q
Resistance
A
Very strong
Enviromentally stable
Resistant to:
- Acids and Bases
- Lipid solvents
- Heat of 60°C for 60 mins
- Inactivated by:
Formalin, and
other oxidising agents
5
Q
Replication
A
- Baltimore II
- Replication only in the nuclei of host cells
- Cellular polymerase converts:
ssDNA -> dsDNA. - Virions are released by cell lysis.
6
Q
Biological properties
A
Stenoxenous
Haemadsorbtion
(Complementation-> use: Aden or herpes infected cells)
7
Q
Antigenic properties
A
Very good antigens with long immunity.
Have cross reactions
Related viruses:
- Mink enteritis canine parvovirus 2
8
Q
Diagnosis
A
Isolation in dividing cells - intranuclear ICB - HA - IF - AGID = Less sensitive - HAI - VN = Serology type
9
Q
Parvovirus
A
- Porcine parvovirus (SMEDI):
- Stillbirths and embryonic death + infertility - Canine parvovirus 2:
- Highly contagious enteritis disease with: *vomiting,
*dysentery and
* immunosuppression. also
* myocarditis in pups
(inflammation of GI trackt) + Myocarditis - Feline Planleukopenia:
- Highly contagious enteric disease with:
* Depression,
* vomiting and
* diarrhoea.
(Stemcell/WBC - immunity suppressed) - Mink Enteritis:
Generalized disease of mink kittens.
- Similar to Feline Planleukopenia. - Chicken parvovirus

Q
Amdovirus
A
- Aleutian mink disease(AMD).
- Persistant viraemia,
- Plasmacytosis,
- Hypergamma-globulinaemia,
- Hemorrhage and
- Nephritis.
Imunocomplex disease - Nephritis
11
Q

A
- B19 virus: HUMANS
- Anaemia
- Human transient aplastic crisis and
- Foetal wastage. - Simian Erythrosis
13
Q
Dependovirus
A
- Adeno associated viruses - need other viruses: eg. Herpes
- Goose parvovirus aka
- DERZSY´s disease:- Respiratory disease and (4weeks old)
- Enteritis.
- Muscovy duck parvovirus.
