Describe adults
Slender
2-6 cm in length

- Predilection site: ligamentum nuchae in region of withers
Describe the life cycle
Culicoides spp.
Indirect
None inhabit the alimentary tract
All depend on insect vectors (IH)
Usually lay larvae (Mff) which develop to L3
What are the sites of infection?
Adults - coiled in tissue nodules
Mff - in tissue spaces of skin
Describe the Pathogenesis
Fibrous tissue to develop
Mff result in pruritic dermatitis
- Microfilarial pityriasis (disease characterized by fine scales)
How do you diagnose?
Mff recovered in a saline incubation of skin biopsies
What are the final hosts?
