8
Q

Explain Latency of measuring behaviour

A

Latency = the time between the stimulus/event, and the onset of behaviour

eg. amount of time after a teacher makes a request to return to task until student complies

Q

What is an “operational definition”

A

10
Q

What is the difference between a Direct Assessment and a Indirect Assessment

A

Direct = target behaviours and consequences are observed/recorded as they go
ex. self-monitoring, professional watching through a two way mirror

Indirect = second hand (or third hand) remembered information
ex. questionnaires, role-playing, interviews (w client or family)

11
Q

What are the problems with Direct Assessment

A

It is more difficult compared to indirect assessment
Observers need to be trained and others can’t observe covert behaviours

12
Q

What are the problems with Indirect Assessment

A

less accurate than direct assessment
observers may not have training and memory might not be the best

13
Q

What is the difference between a Natural Setting and an Analogue Setting

14
Q

What is the difference between a structured and an unstructured observation

A

Structured Observation = observations made while instructions are given, or specific events are planned to occur systematically

Unstructured Observation = observations made without instructions or altering events

15
Q

What is Reactivity in observation

A

when recording/measuring a behaviour affects the occurrence and results
eg. knowing you are being watched will change how you act

16
Q

What are the guidelines for defining a behaviour to modify

A
  1. Avoid labels (eg.depressed)
  2. Use active verbs
  3. No references about internal states
  4. Inter-observer agreement (IOA) (everyone agrees on it)
