What does the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) require to be certified
Training and Experience
A written exam
Government license is required
What are the 6 common dimensions of measuring behaviour
- frequency
- Duration
- Latency
- Intensity
- Product Recording
- Quality
Explain Latency of measuring behaviour
Latency = the time between the stimulus/event, and the onset of behaviour
eg. amount of time after a teacher makes a request to return to task until student complies
What is an “operational definition”
A description of something, in terms of operations that can be measured/observed (procedures/actions/processes)
What is an “operational definition”
A description of something, in terms of operations that can be measured/observed (procedures/actions/processes)
What is the difference between a Direct Assessment and a Indirect Assessment
Direct = target behaviours and consequences are observed/recorded as they go
ex. self-monitoring, professional watching through a two way mirror
Indirect = second hand (or third hand) remembered information
ex. questionnaires, role-playing, interviews (w client or family)
What are the problems with Direct Assessment
It is more difficult compared to indirect assessment
Observers need to be trained and others can’t observe covert behaviours
What are the problems with Indirect Assessment
less accurate than direct assessment
observers may not have training and memory might not be the best
What is the difference between a Natural Setting and an Analogue Setting
Natural setting = behaviour observed in target persons typical environment
Analogue setting = behaviour observed in a stimulated location
What is the difference between a structured and an unstructured observation
Structured Observation = observations made while instructions are given, or specific events are planned to occur systematically
Unstructured Observation = observations made without instructions or altering events
