Antecedent Control Procedures Flashcards
What are Antecedent Control Behaviours
manipulating some aspect of the physical or social environment to make a desired behaviour occur more, or an undesirable behaviour occur less
What is “presenting a discriminative stimulus (SD) or cues for the desired behaviour.”
A certain stimulus will increase a desired behaviour, so in this method, a SD is added to the environment (arranging conditions for the behaviour to occur)
eg. to increase the likelihood of eating healthier, Samantha replaces processed foods in her pantry with healthy foods
What is “establishing operations for the desired behaviour”
An establishing operations is an environmental event or condition that increases the value of the reinforcer
eg.if you want to drink more water, you can go for runs, which will make you thirsty and drink water. the running is the establishing operation
What is “decreasing response effort for the desirable behaviour”
ranging antecedent conditions so less effort is needed to engage in the desired behaviour
eg.by replacing the processed foods in the pantry with healthy foods, you are making it easier to eat healthy foods (because it is accessible and easy)
What is “removing the discriminative stimulus or cues for undesirable behaviours”
removing the antecedents that make an undesirable behaviour occur
eg. the presence of unhealthy processed foods when you are trying to eat healthier
what is “presenting abolishing operations for undesirable behaviours”
Making the outcome of a desirable behaviour less reinforcing by presenting an abolishing operation
eg. Samantha ate and got full before she went shopping so she was more unlikely to buy unnecessary foods. Eating before shopping makes the reinforcement of buying junk food less desirable and is the abolishing operation
What is “increasing the response effort for undesirable behaviours”
increasing the response efforts for an undesirable behaviour, so that it occurs less.
eg. by getting rid of all the unhealthy food, Samantha made it harder to access them, making it more unlikely that she will eat unhealthy foods
Name the 6 different Antecedent control Behaviours
1.Presenting a discriminative stimulus (SD)
2. Establishing operations for desired behaviour
3. Decreasing response effort for desired behaviours
4. Removing a discriminative stimulus for undesirable behaviours
5. Presenting abolishing operations
6. increasing response effort for undesired behaviours
