- A multisystemic autoimmune disorder characterized by pronounced hyperthyroidism
- Usually associated with an enlarged thyroid and exophthalmos.
What is Hashimoto disease? What is it the most common cause of? What is it associated with?
- A progressive autoimmune inflammatory disorder of the thyroid gland

- Associated with an increased risk of developing a thyroid malignancy.
What is hypercalcemia? What disease is it assocaited with?
- An excessive amount of calcium in the blood
- Associated with hyperparathyroidism.
What is hyperparathyroidism? What two diseases might it lead to?
- Excessive function of the parathyroid glands
- May lead to osteoporosis and nephrolithiasis.
What is hyperthyroidism?
Hyperactivity of the thyroid gland; associated with Graves disease.
What is hypocalcemia? What is it associated with?
- A deficiency of calcium in the blood
- Associated with hypoparathyroidism.
What is hypoparathyroidism? What two things is it assocaited with?
- A condition of insufficient secretion of the parathyroid glands
- Associated with hypocalcemia and primary parathyroid dysfunction.
What is hypothyroidism?
Decreased activity of the thyroid gland; associated with Hashimoto disease.
What are longus colli muscles? What injuries is it commonly associated with?
- Neck muscles located on the anterior surface of the vertebral column, between the atlas and the third thoracic vertebra
- Commonly associated with whiplash injuries.
What is myxoedema? How is it chacterized by? What may it lead to?

- Secrete hormones Thyroxine, triiodothyronine, and calcitonin.
How is the secretion of thyroid hormones controlled?
Primarily controlled by the thyroid-stimulating hormone produced by the pituitary gland.
