Module 1 Health Risk Assessment Flashcards
Health Risk Assessment (HRA)
systematic and comprehensive evaluation of a persons overall health through collection and data analysis
- 1st step in planning interventions r/t health promotion and disease prevention
Why conduct HRA
- improve health outcomes and quality of life
- address current problems as well as potential
- reduce health disparities
- encourage and empower pt to take active role
What is a health risk
Factor that raises the probability of adverse health outcomes
- Smoking -> Cancer, Lung disease, dec. quality of life
disease model
Goal is to mitigate disease
based on allopathic medicine
dx based on hx, physical exam, and diagnostic testing
Cura Personalis
- Goal is to promote optimal health
- based on combo of allopathic, osteopathic, and naturopathic medicine
- Assessment based on hx, physical exam, diagnostic testing, functional status, spiritual beliefs, health beliefs, and modifiable/non-modifiable risk factors.
Leading causes of death age 1-44
unintentional injury
3 steps in core competencies for genetic family hx
collection
interpretation
intervention
values of family fx
aids in diagnosis and tx of - single gene disorders: CF, fragile X - common complex diseases: CV disease, DM Helps identify risk factors Provides info for child bearing
benefits of knowing FMH for patient
pt risk of developing disease
identify pt who would benefit from genetic testing
implementation of early screening
instruction of preventative changes
Collection of pt and FH
general health info
chronic medical conditions
list of medications: doses and indications
hospitalizations, surgeries, birth defects
developmental delays, learning disabilities, autism
target specific concerns
To be included in FH
age, DOB Relevant health info diagnosis and age of diagnosis age of death, cause of death ethnic background of biologic grandparents
Proband
affected individual
square vs circle
square = male circle = female
Pedigree crucial elements (4)
- be reasonable accurate
- be updated easily
- allow for pattern direction and interpretation
- provide clear communication and interpretation between health care providers
Red flags on pedigree
several closely related individuals with same or related conditions.
- breast and ovarian cancer
- colon and endometrial cancer
- diabetes, CV disease, HTN
- thyroid cancer, colon polyps
