A

After stopping at crossing indicator, call the signaller, operate the emergency plunger and ensure the crossing is safe to cross

Pull up short,

Proceed if safe

A

Pass the treadle which activates the crossing
AWS 180 metres from the crossing warning board
Service breaking distance
Speed board
Check for white flashing light (crossing gates closed)
Check crossing is clear
Pass crossing at required speed
Accelerating when train nose is on the crossing

What is the procedure if you get a flashing red light or no light when approaching an ABCL or AOCL

A

You’ve been over the treadle, AWS, warning board and speed board
Red flashing light
Stop at red light, secure the train
Inform the signaller
Leave train and press plunger to activate the crossing
Check crossing
Proceed at caution

How would you pass a level crossing under local control

A

Approach at caution, only pass on the authority of a green hand signal

A

When a red light is flashing
A white light isn’t flashing
The crossing is obstructed
Signaller tells you the crossing has failed
You can’t see the crossing is clear
If the traffic signals have been switch off and the barriers left up

A

Only cross if it’s safe to do so
Sound the horn continuously until the front of your train is on the crossing

Must be a passenger or ECS with interior lights on

Arrangements have been made to stop traffic passing over the crossing
Or
If a ABCL, the barriers are down and the crossing lights are on
