Where are the preferred places to perform a controlled evacuation
A station platform
A disused platform
End to end transfer
Side by side transfer
On to the cess
What is an emergency evacuation
When it’s absolutely necessary for passengers to be evacuated due to immediate danger
When passengers are in immediate danger and it’s not practical to move passengers to other vehicles
What must you do in an emergency evacuation
You must inform the signaller, request lines block on all affected lines
If necessary ask for traction current to be switched off
If you can’t contact the signaller or signal protection can’t be provided, carry out emergency protection
If you have a guard what can they help with during an emergency evacuation
Get them to use the PA to seek assistance from any competent person
Help lay emergency protection
What’s the procedure if you have a marauding terrorist/firearms attack on your train
Make REC via GSMR requesting emergency services
Stop in suitable location asap avoid tunnels, viaducts etc
Once at a stand release doors on safest side
Move away from potential source of danger
Try to keep communications with the signaller or control, use mobile phone or Lineside phone
What actions should you take during an uncontrolled evacuation
Ask the signaller to block all affected lines
Place track circuit clips on affected lines
If you can’t contact the signaller or signal protection can’t be provided you must lay emergency protection
When protection is complete advise the guard immediately
If your train has an uncontrolled evacuation you must
Try and prevent passengers from making an uncontrolled evacuation, advise them of the risks and safest place to stand/walk
