What are your actions if you are required to leave the cab
Secure the train (full service brakes, DRA set, drive selector in N)
Secure the cab (as per traction manual)
Ensure you have safety equipment
Hi-Vis
Contact signaller if you require a line block etc
Bringing a train into service…..
What checks should you do before starting a train
Time = diagrammed departure time
Signal = check signal aspect, if no signal what was the last signal
Speed = what is the permissible limit
Station = what is the next stop
What are the risk of misuse of the DRA
DRA is designed as a driver aid to prevent SPADs not as in cab signalling
Misuse will reduce it’s effectiveness and increase risk
When approaching and stopping at a signal at danger, what should you do
Always apply the 20/20 rule,
200 yards before the signal be travelling at 20mph stopping 20m from the signal.
If you are stopping at a station with a red aspect at the end of the platform and your stopping point will be less than 20m away from the signal. What procedure must you follow
Modify the 20/20 rule, be at a walking pace one coach length before the required car stoping point
If you’re in any doubt of the movement authority, what must you do
Do not move, contact the signaller
