lecture 7 Flashcards
pavlovian learning
associative learning - acquisition of new reflexes
pavlovian learning refutes the claim that
all reflexes are innate and not acquired as a result of experience
pavlov
classical conditioning
learning through association
Before conditioning
UCS=UCR food = salivation
during conditioning
UCS+CS = UCR food+bell = salivation
after conditioning
CS=CR bell = salivation
animal has learned to
respond to the CS in a new way - animal acquires a conditional reflex
is the CR condition response the SAME as the UCR
sometimes… the CR is the SAME KIND of response as the UR
produces the same result
example of CR being different from the UR
rat foot shock (UCS)experiment- tone/light(CS)
Elicits a jump(UR) BEFORE TRAINING
rat learns to FREEZE (CR) after training
conditional response to insulin injection procedure
rat is injected with insulin (US) causing HYPOglycemia - decrease in blood glucose level(UR)
Stimuli associated with being injected- repeatedly inject rat
results of conditional response to insulin injection
rat acquires a CR - HYPERglycemia
increase in blood glucose level
CR is NOT always the same as the UR
Is CS -US pairing necessary for acquiring a CR
CR’s can be acquired even in there is no pairing
what does it mean by necessity
US-CS must be paired in order for a CR to be acquired
when US is Aversive the CR the animal makes is to
approach location of the CS
eg- a tone - organism moves towards speaker
when the US is desirable/ pleasurable the CR is to
avoid the location of the CS
