2
Q

Define biomechanics and list the 2 categories.

A

Application of mechanical principles to the human body.

  • static (non-moving)
    or
  • dynamic (moving)
    - kinetics or kinematics

Q

Discuss kinematics.

A

Looks at dynamic systems like kinetics but looks at time, space, and mass aspects as movement occurs.

Q

Define osteokinematics.

A

Describes movement between two bones around a joint axis.

  • This movement is quantifiable
  • Measured with a goniometer

Q

Discuss planes and axis of motion.

A
  • Planes describes position and motion of body from anatomical position.
  • Axis of motion is perpendicular to plane
  • 3 Planes of the body: Frontal, Sagittal, Transverse
  • Sagittal plane moves around frontal axis
  • Frontal plane moves around sagittal axis
  • Transverse plane moves around longitudinal axis

For any joint, be able to tell what plane it moves in and what axis it moves around. Examples in lecture packet.
