Imaging and Diagnostic Tests Flashcards
What has similar characteristics to radiograph/X-ray
CT Scan also has same principles of radiopaque vs radiolucent
Describe Radiopaque vs Radiolucent on X-Ray
Radiopaque is whiter, greyer, solid color due to attenuation/absorption of light. Structures like BONE, metal, fluid. More Dense (shown in atelectasis for e.g b/c no air)
Radiolucent means not as much absorbed so less dense (e.g healthy lungs full of air) would appear darker.
Describe
What is a CT scan used for
Great for bone especially spinal injuries, brain
What are radiographs used for and NOT used for
Bones, Lung pathology, NOT soft tissue
Radiograph and CT scan main contraindication
Pregnancy not recommended
What is a key diff in use of T1 vs T2 MRI
T1 better for straight up anatomy and identifying abnormalities
T2 better if also trying to detect inflammation, fluid buildup, etc.
