Hypotheses Flashcards
What is experimental hypothesis?
A precise, testable statement about what is expected.
May also be called the alternative hypotheses.
What is null hypothesis?
States that any differences is due to chance.
Give an example of experimental hypothesis.
There will be a significant difference in the reaction times measured in cm on a ruler drop test between participants who drink 5 cups of coffee and participants who drink 5 cups of decaffeinated coffee.
Non-directional.
Give an example of null hypothesis.
There will be no significant difference
What is a one tailed experimental/alternative hypothesis?
Whereby the direction of the results is predicted.
What is a two tailed experimental/alternative hypothesis?
Whereby a difference is predicted but not its direction.
Give an example of a one directional
Participants who drink 5 cups of coffee will have faster reaction measured by cms on a ruler drop test than participants who drink 5 cups of decaffeinated coffee.
