Raine et al (1997) found differences in levels of functioning when comparing NGRIs to controls using PET scans. NGRIs had less functioning in the corpus callosum, less activity in the amygdala in the left hemisphere and less activity in the prefrontal cortex supporting a link between reduced brain functioning and aggression.

Donta Page was on trial for murder and Raine testified that Page had misshapen frontal lobes resulting in impulsive and violent behaviour beyond his control. The jury subsequently found Page guilty of a lesser charge of murder, which removed the possibility of the death penalty.
