The content of text is firstly analysed by counting the number of chosen words, than an interpretation is made about the underlying meanings in the content
Such interpretation may include who spoke that words and in what context

What does offering an interpretation of content do?
Offering an interpretation transforms the content back to qualitative data and offers an insight into the underlying meanings in the content

The highest tallies in article one were depression, insanity and asylum whereas in article two they were illness
The lowest tallies in article one were disturbed, positive, negative, drug treatment and talking cures whereas in article two they were conditions, confined, insanity, distraught, madhouses, toxic/chemical and cold shower/bath

in article one mental health is seen as a negative thing whereas in article two it is becoming more accepted as an illness

Overall, the two articles demonstrate how attitudes to mental illness have changed over time becoming more positive in recent times
