What’s the whole idea of technology in hospitality?
The whole idea of technology in the hotel space is to give Customers the total control of their activities in the palm of their hands; Not only they can book, check-in, select their room, with Google maps you can see the actual room view, digital key;But also use can your digital key to match your preferences such a Netflix, pandora, lighting, room temperature etc. When you check-in, voila, everything is connected. You know the room the room knows you! All stuff is preloaded and the only thing you need to touch to control is sitting in the palm of your hand.Beta tasting.
Technology’s role in the hospitality?
2-ways to think about Technology: technology isn’ transparent to the customer that drives value for owners; sophisticated branding, advertising, marketing approach, revenue management, utilisation of AI, and how do you price, merchandise and sell better?Customers won’t directly see that; technology is not tangible it’s something experience related. But when talking abt customer facing technology, you need to ask yourself what are you trying to solve for?You have to use technology by looking at customer journey how can I remove friction? Friction in terms of finding content, booking a room or checking out of a hotel. That is where technology really contributes to the visuals. That is, something once was a difficult task can be now done swiftly, for example by using your Handphone; you can mobile check out: there you remove friction point or look at the phone for real time folio review, see all charges and simply click checkout and send it to your secretary. I don’t have to worry; didn’t go to the FO or worry. That’s how we should do it.
