Histology of female reproductive system (basic) - breast Flashcards
what do breast tissue contains?
contains compound tubule-acinar glands
a single lactiferous duct opens from multiple acini
what are the structures within in an inactive breast tissue?
there is limited development of the duct-alveolar system, and there is a relatively dense fibrous interlobular tissue
what are the relatively dense fibrous interlobular tissues in inactive breast tissues called?
suspensory ligaments
what else is present in breast tissue?
adipose tissue
what is the retromammary space?
a potential space of burst between the breast and fascia of the muscles of the chest wall, which can be utilised from breast implants
what are the structures within lactating breast tissue?
the duct-alveolar becomes highly developed with milk secretions into the alveolar lumens; the interlobular fibrous tissue is reduced to thin septae
what will tumours of the breast cause?
shorten suspensory ligaments
causing distortion of the breast or cause an oedema leading to dimpling of the skin
what is the breast lymph drainage to?
to the axillary or parasternal lymph nodes
how do breast lymph drainage relate to tumours
axillary / parasternal lymph drainage is how tumours commonly metastasise
where is the arterial blood supply to the breasts?
from the internal thoracic, intercostal and lateral thoracic arteries
where is the venous drainage to breasts?
axillary, internal thoracic and posterior intercostal veins
