What is workplace violence?
Threatening gestures, verbal threats or abuse, hitting, shoving, etc.
What is type I violence and how can it be controlled?
Random acts of violence, usually associated with a criminal act
Controlled by: protective screens and barriers
What is type II violence and how can it be controlled?
Acts of violence from customers and clients
Controlled by: surveillance cameras, effective lighting, presence of security personnel, car-controlled entrances
What is type III violence and how can it be controlled?
Acts of violence from co-workers
Controlled by: management training, open environment, conflict resolution processes, employee training, non-tolerance policy
What is type IV violence and how can it be controlled?
Acts of violence from a family member or partner
Controlled by: employee and family assistance programs, temporary accommodation as required

Includes stressors

Positive stress that is usually accompanied with excitement and higher productivity
What are some causes of stress?

What is burnout?
Severe stress resulting in emotional exhaustion
