• Massive colonic dilatation
• Abnormal mucosal contour
• Shortened colon
• Loss of colonic haustra
• Toxic megacolon (complication)
Ulcerative colitis on Br enema:
Single contrast:
• Colonic ulceration > irregular wall
• No haustra
Double contrast:
• Multiple mucosal black dots (mucosal ulceration)
• Irregular outline wall of colon
Ulcerative colitis with longstanding disease (Br enema)
lead pip appearance
No haustra no Function
Reflux into the ileum through an incompetent ileocecal valve has occurred
CT scan UC
• Circumferential, symmetrical wall thickening with loss of haustra.
• thickening of the colon wall with inhomogenous attenuation
• Target appearance of rectum
• Proliferation of perirectal fat
• mural thickening of the terminal ileum may be visualized in 10-25%
