CNS V (brain tumor) Flashcards
classifiction of brain tumor to three thirds
- gliomas
- metastasis
- non glial tumours
the most common type of gliomas is
astrocytoma
radiological features of glioma
- Solitory Irregular mass, surrounded by edema, with mass effect.
- Usually low density, but may be high or mixed density with calcification
- Pre/post-contrast should be performed for accurate detection.
The most common adult primary intracranial neoplasm
Glioblastoma
glioma of adult and child
- adult Glioblastoma (poor prognosis)
- child Pilocytic Astrocytoma
characters of meningioma
Arise from meninges of vault, falx, or tentorium.
Dense than brain on unenhanced CT bc of calcif..
Marked contrast enhancement.
Sclerosis, bone thickening.
thickening and enhancement of the local dura.
hint: mass + enhacement + bone thickning = meningioma
the most common site of meningioma
- parasagittal region over the cerebral convexities
- the sphenoid ridges
radiological features of acoustic neuroma
- Arise in the internal auditory canal adjacent to the internal auditory meatus
- In the cerebellopontinr angle
- visible on CT if large (MRI preferred)
- Contrast improves visibility
D.Dx of CPA masses are:
CPA = cerebellopontine angle
[AMEN]
A: acoustic schwannoma (~80%).
M: meningioma (~10%).
E: ependymoma (~5%).
N: neuroepithelial cyst (arachnoid/epidermoid) (~5%).
