What is autoimmune gastritis due to?
Autoantibodies to parietal cells and intrinsic factor
What does autoimmune gastritis cause?
Atrophy of specialised acid secreting gastric epithelium
What does autoimmune gastritis result in?
Decreased acid secretion
Loss of intrinsic factor
What does a loss of intrinsic factor lead to?
Vitamin B12 deficiency
What does a vitamin B12 deficiency result in?
Pernicious anaemia
What is the commonest type of gastritis?
Bacterial gastritis
What is bacterial gastritis due to?
H. Pylori
Where is H. Pylori found?
Found in gastric mucus on surface of gastric epithelium
What does H. Pylori cause?
Increase acid production
What are the 3 causes of chemical gastritis?
Drugs: NSAID’s
Alcohol
Bile reflux
