Locally controlled - with a signal box at the crossing loop
Remote controlled - crossing loop is operated from a remote location
What are the exceptions and authorities to pass Departure Signals?
- DEFECTIVE : ATC - Systems Caution Order
- ASSISTING A DISABLED TRAIN : Train Authority
How must a train proceed when passing a defective home departure signal once correct authority has been issued?
EXTREME CAUTION
Must proceed cautiously in accordance with RIS3 until train has passed the next fixed signal
If a Home Departure, signal has provision for a Low Speed caution aspect, what is the authority to pass the signal to enter into the siding when its defective?
Still need a Signaler’s Caution Order
(Even though Not entering the single line section or not an ATC track)
What is the authority to pass a defective ATC departure signal when protecting points or not protecting points?
ATC Systems Caution Order ALWAYS
Regardless of points or not
How does a driver receive an ATC systems caution order?
Handed by the signaller in a locally controlled location
Transmitted over a recorded phone line
(Exchange names with signaler)
OR
Dictated to the driver at a Remote Controlled Crossing Loop (forms in post phone)
- Contents of form to be signed & repeated back
What must happen if there are no caution order forms available?
An ATC system caution order can be written on ANY piece of paper as long as it is done in accordance with the wording of the ATC SCO
Can drivers be asked to operate the points with a DCPM on ATC?
YES at an uncontrolled location
If points protected by the defective departure, signal is in excess of 100 m from the signal and positive detection is not available on the points, can points be placed into the hand position after the caution order has been issued?
Yes

- must do extreme caution whilst going through points when going in from the advance (even though your speed is as per signal aspects etc)
