What are the drivers duties if a train is stopped in the section for any reason?

A
  • check if derailed or fouling other lines
  • secure train
  • contact TC
  • state the circumstances obtain RTA if req’d
  • state exact location
  • PA
  • fault finding (if required)

- TEC or REC fault found
- declare train disabled

If the relief driver is already in the line section, (doesn’t require TA) does the driver of disabled train still need to protect the train?

A

Yes

If the relief train is already in the block section or behind an Automatic signal protecting the disabled train, is a Train Authority required?

A

No

If driver is waiting at signal (protecting train) they will pilot relief driver under R1S3

If relief driver is not at auto - TC will give relief verbal authority to perform R1S3 to the protection point

HOWEVER a TA is required for combined trains to return to the rear. (Not if both trains are going to travel in original direction)

Can a low speed caution or signal be worked for a wrong line move?

No

When a signal cannot be placed to proceed as it is protecting a wrong line move, how will relief enter the section?

A

Use the exception: ‘Track Circuited with now Low Speed Caution’

Then
get VERBAL authority from signaler and/or green hand signal

When running on wrong line, what must occur when approaching level crossing & what speed through it?

A

Diver must activate the Xing by drawing train slowly towards it,

STOP once boom-gates/ protection has activated

then once fully in place, and clear of cars/ pedestrians, proceed through xing

Use whistle frequently

15km/h max through the xing
