What are the drivers duties if a train is stopped in the section for any reason?
- check if derailed or fouling other lines
- secure train
- contact TC
- state the circumstances obtain RTA if req’d
- state exact location
- PA
- fault finding (if required)
IF NO FAULT FOUND:
- TEC or REC fault found
- declare train disabled
What are the drivers next steps once they have declared the train disabled?
- complete DRA form
- dictate the DRA to TC
What will TC do once driver has dictated DRA form to them?
- repeat contents back
- tell the driver from which end to protect train
When can the disabled train be moved ?
After DRA form has been cancelled
When will TC issue a TRAIN AUTHORITY to rescue the disabled train?
Once the disabled train is protected by the driver
If the relief train is already in the same block section as the disabled train, will a Train Authority be required?
No
The relief will drive as per signal aspects to the fixed signal that is protecting the train
On both double line & bi directional ABS
How is a train authority issued?
Handed / dictated
What must a relief driver do as receipt of the train authority when it is handed ?
Sign the butt
What must the driver of the disabled train take with them when going to protect the train?
DRA form
Train Radio
Red hand signals (torch/flag)
- ensure marker lights RED & display RED hand sig. at 500m protection point in a pos. Of safety (inform TC once there)
From which direction must the relief travel to the disabled train?
Direction stated on the TA
What is the authority to pass a signal protecting the Disabled train / allow entrance to the block section on ABS?
If signal can be placed to proceed it will or low speed caution given
If signal cannot be worked then correct authority is:
Auto R1S3
Home - apply exception Track Circ. w NO low speed Caution
At what speed will the train travel once driver of disabled train is picked up and piloted to rescue point?
15km/h max
What is the relief procedure once relief driver has arrived to the disabled train location?
5 C’s
CONFER - with driver
COUPLE UP - electrically or non electrically
CANCEL - DRA form
CONTINUITY - test EMY brake in lead cab
CONTACT - TC for permission to move both trains
In which direction can both trains be moved?
Stated on TA
What must occur when both trains have arrived complete at a locally controlled signal box location?
Driver must submit both TA & cancelled DRA form to signaler who will cancel TA & notify TC
Who cancels the TA at a remote contolled location?
Relief driver (informs TC writes cancelled. /date & time of cancellation & submit with incident report

If the relief driver is already in the line section, (doesn’t require TA) does the driver of disabled train still need to protect the train?
Yes
DOUBLE LINE ABS
If the relief train is already in the block section or behind an Automatic signal protecting the disabled train, is a Train Authority required?
No
If driver is waiting at signal (protecting train) they will pilot relief driver under R1S3
If relief driver is not at auto - TC will give relief verbal authority to perform R1S3 to the protection point
HOWEVER a TA is required for combined trains to return to the rear. (Not if both trains are going to travel in original direction)

Can a low speed caution or signal be worked for a wrong line move?
No
DOUBLE LINE ABS
When a signal cannot be placed to proceed as it is protecting a wrong line move, how will relief enter the section?
Use the exception: ‘Track Circuited with now Low Speed Caution’
Then
get VERBAL authority from signaler and/or green hand signal
DOUBLE LINE ABS relief from ADVANCE
WHAT SPEED of relief train ?
Reduced speed until 2km from disabled train
STOP
Pick up driver, max 15km piloted to disabled train
DOUBLE LINE ABS
When running on wrong line, what must occur when approaching level crossing & what speed through it?
Diver must activate the Xing by drawing train slowly towards it,
STOP once boom-gates/ protection has activated
then once fully in place, and clear of cars/ pedestrians, proceed through xing
Use whistle frequently
15km/h max through the xing

Same rules as DOUBLE line ABS

What is authority to enter section (rescue) ?
train authority
(Track has been set up to be signaled for that direction for disabled train - ALL SIGNALS @STOP for relief train)

EXTREME CAUTION
(R1S3 - all signals at STOP)
What authority is required for a train to rescue the train if the relief train that already has aTA, becomes disabled?
A fresh TA- the relief train must cancel their train authority

What must a driver do on ABS if their train becomes disabled after an Automatic signal & driver is not satisfied that any following trains have been stopped?
TOTS
Make a PA,
Full cab unattended (if safe)
Protect train to the rear (500m / NFS)
Wait with a.Red hand signal
