ATC - Automatic & Track Control System Flashcards
What is the object of the ATC system?
When 2 or more trains are to proceed in the same direction through a single line section, TO PREVENT MORE THAN ONE TRAIN BEING ON A TRACK SECTION AT THE SAME TIME
When trains are to proceed in opposing directions through the single line section
TO PREVENT MORE THAN ONE TRAIN ENTERING THE SINGLE LINE SECTION AT THE SAME TIME
Can drivers be asked to operate the points at remote controlled crossing loops?
(DCPMs)
Yes when there are signal failures
What are the station limits on ATC ?
(Area controlled by signaller)
The portion of line between opposing Home Arrival Signals
What is the authority for a driver to enter the single line section?
A proceed aspect on a Home Departure signal or on a dwarf when entering the section from a siding
What is the single line section?
The portion of track in between 2 crossing loops
(Can be locally or remotely controlled)
What is a locally controlled crossing loop??
Controlled by a signal box at that location
What is a remotely controlled crossing loop?
Controlled remotely by a signal box (not at that location) under direction of the Train Controller for that section
What do Home arrival signal control the entrance to?
The crossing loop
Do the Home Arrival signals have a low speed caution?
Yes they all do
Do Home Departure signals have low speed caution?
No they don’t and if they do it’s only to enter a siding and never into the single line section
How can you terminate on ATC where a crossing loop is only signalled for one directional running?
By receiving an ATC Systems Caution Order with reference to the Departure signal deleted as authority to enter the single line section
