Q

How do SSRIs work?

A

They block the reuptake of Serotonin meaning more is left in the synapse and so there is greater activity at the receptor sites

Q

How do MAOIs work?

A

They inhibit Monoamine oxidaise enzyme which stops it breaking down the monoamines meaning there will be more in the synapse and greater activity

16
Q

Give two reasons why CBT might be a better treatment than drugs

A

It is longer lasting as people are taught skills rather than relying on the chemical, It doesn’t cause side to effects and therefore might be a better therapy

17
Q

Why might drugs be better than CBT?

A

They are quicker acting making it more useful

18
Q

What did Geddes (2003) find?

A

Using drugs has a relapse rate of 18 percent compared to 41 percent for the placebo group
