Dobutamine (Dobutrex) Flashcards
1
Q
Classification:
A
- Adrenergic agent
- Inotropic
2
Q
Action:
A
- Acts primarily as an agonist beta 1 adrenergic receptors w/ minor beta2 and alpha1 effects
- Dobutamine increases myocardial contractility and stroke volume w/ minor chronotropic effects, resulting in increased cardiac output
3
Q
Indications:
A
- CHF
- Cardiogenic shock
4
Q
Adverse Effects:
A
- Tachycardia
- PVCs
- HTN
- Hypotension
- Palpitations
- Arrhythmias
5
Q
Contraindications:
A
- Suspected/ known poisoning/ drug induced shock
- Systolic BP less than 100 mm Hg w/ signs of shock
- Idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis
- Known sensitivity (Including sulfites)
- Use w/ caution in HTN, recent MI, arrhythmias, hypovolemia

Q
Dosage (Adult):
A
- Initial 0.5 to 1 mcg/kg/min IV, IO. Maintenance infusions are typically 2-20 mcg/kg/min
- Doses greater than 20 mcg/kg/min, increases HR of greater than 10% may induce or exacerbate myocardial ischemia
7
Q
Special Considerations:
A
- Half life 2 minutes
