- Increases oncotic pressure in intravascular space

Indication:
A
- Expand intravascular volume

Adverse Effects:
A
- Allergic reaction in some Pts
- Excessive volume of fluid can result in and pulmonary edema in susceptible Pts

Contraindications:
A
- Severe anemia/ cardiac failure in presence of normal or increased intravascular volume
- Solution appears turbid/ after 4 hours since opening the container
- Known sensitivity

Dosage (Adult):
A
- 5% Albumin: 500-1000 mL IV, IO
-25% Albumin: 50-200 mL IV, IO

Dosage (Pediatric):
A
- 5% Albumin: 0.5-1 g/kg IV; Initial dose may be repeated 15-30 mins if clinical response is inadequate
- 25% Albumin: 1 g/kg IV, IO

Special Considerations:
A
- Pts w/ history of CHF, cardiac disease, HTN, pulmonary edema should be given 5% albumin, or 25% albumin should be diluted
