Diuretics Flashcards
therapeutic use Thiazide/Thiazide-like (indapamide)
hypertension
Mechanism of action Thiazide/Thiazide-like (indapamide)
in the early distal tubules, the sodium-chloride symport in the luminal membrane is blocked by thiazide or thiazide-like drugs.
therefore, more sodium gets generated in the filtering that moves into the the collecting ducts and distal tubules.
adverse effects Thiazide/Thiazide-like (indapamide)
dizziness
erectile dysfunction
decreased blood pressure
contraindications Thiazide/Thiazide-like (indapamide)
severe renal impairment
hepatic disease
drug interaction Thiazide/Thiazide-like (indapamide)
corticosteroids
therapeutic use Loop (frusemide)
oedema
Mechanism of action Loop (frusemide)
inhibition of the sodium-potassium-chloride transporter pump, the osmotic gradient in the loop of Henle is lost.
adverse effects Loop (frusemide)
headaches
dizziness
constipation
contraindications Loop (frusemide)
