anxiety Flashcards
1
Q
therapeutic actions Benzodiazepines (diazepam)
A
anxiety
2
Q
mechanism of action Benzodiazepines (diazepam)
A
the post-synaptic ligand-gated chloride channels get triggered by the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA, which causes Cl- to enter the cell, hyperpolarisation of the cell membrane, neural cell reduction and thereby impairing the action potential.
GABA neurotransmission is impaired, resulting in anticonvulsant activity, sedation and relaxation.

cognitive impairment
slurred speech
