calcium channel blockers (amlodipine) Flashcards
1
Q
Therapeutic use Amlodipine
A
Hypertension
2
Q
Mechanism of action Amlodipine
A
lowers blood pressure through vascular smooth muscle relaxation, vasodilation and reduced total peripheral resistance.
It competitively inhibits calcium ion access into cells and therefore decreases the volume of calcium, that is obtainable for the excitation-contraction processes.
3
Q
Adverse effects Amlodipne
A
headaches
hypotension
dizziness
4
Q
Contraindications Amlodipine
A
severe aortic stenosis
severe obstructive coronary artery disease
5
Q
Drug interaction Amlodipine
A
ephedra
