a Canadian civilian in London, Richard Hannay, becomes caught up in preventing an organization of spies called “The 39 Steps” from stealing British military secrets, after trying to escape both the spy network and police on a chase through the Highlands of Scotland, Hannay finds himself working with a woman, Pamela, who at first tries to turn him in to the police but later believes his story, at a performance by Mr. Memory, Hannay figures out that the spies are getting the secrets out by having Mr. Memory memorize the plans, Hannay shoots Mr. Memory but prompts Mr. Memory to recite some of the secret plans before he dies

Bob and Jill Lawrence, are a British couple on vacation in Switzerland, Jill is a sharpshooter for sport, in Switzerland they meet a Frenchman who is murdered but who tells Jill where to find a note intended for the British consul before he dies, Bob reads the note, the criminals kidnap Betty and threaten to kill her if parents reveal what they know, which is a plan to kill a European head of state at a concert in England, back in England, Bob is captured by the criminals while searching for his daughter, Jill goes to the concert and thwarts the assassination by screaming at the moment he is about to shoot, the police track down the location of the criminals, Jill takes a rifle and shoots Abbot (Peter Lorre), the leader of the gang

a widower named de Winter courts a young American woman on vacation in Europe and asks her to marry him, he takes her back to his mansion Manderley, which is dominated by its housekeeper Mrs. Danvers who was a close confidante of the first Mrs. de Winter, named Rebecca, the house is full of reminders of Rebecca, the woman begins to suspect that de Winter is still in love with Rebecca, she holds a costume party and wears a copy of the dress that she sees in a portrait of one of de Winter’s ancestors, de Winter is appalled since that same dress was worn by Rebecca, Mrs. Danvers tries to persuade the woman to commit suicide since she will never be able to compete with the original Mrs. de Winter, but then a boat has just discovered Rebecca’s body, Maxim reveals that his marriage to Rebecca was a sham, she was having an affair with her cousin and was even trying to goad de Winter into killing her in order to ruin him as she had terminal cancer, during an argument she struck her head and died and Maxim identified another body that washed ashore as Rebecca, back in the present, Rebecca’s cousin, in light of the actual body that has now appeared, accuses de Winter of murder, but the police clear him who rule her death a suicide, Maxim returns home to find his mansion on fire, set ablaze by the deranged Mrs. Danvers, all escape except for Danvers
