Communication Within A Neuron Flashcards
Where is the information received?
At the receptor sites of the post synaptic neuron
Where is the information sent from the receptor sites?
Soma
What happens in the soma?
Action potential is generated
Describe how the charge inside the axon is changed from negative ( resting ) to positive ( action )
When something happens the negative charge reaches its action potential and then the outside energy becomes negative
What happens when the energy inside the axon becomes positive?
Impulse bursts along the axon towards the axon terminals
What happens when the impulse reaches the axon terminals
It moves towards the terminal buttons
What does the terminal button contain?
Vesicles containing neurotransmitters
What happens to the vesicles?
Action potential causes vesicles to move towards the membrane of the axon terminal
What happens to the vesicles at the axon terminal membrane?
Neurotransmitters Released across the synaptic gap
What receives the neurotransmitters?
Dendrites of the post-synaptic neuron
