Chondrogenesis Flashcards
chondroblasts are derived from ___
mesenchyme.
role of chondroblast
synthesize collagen and matrix.
chondroblasts become surrounded by the matrix they created. when they amture, they become ____, functioN?
chondrocytes. They maintain the matrix.
after chondrocytes form from chondroblasts, what do they do?
divide to form isogenous groups.
2 types of matrix.
1) territorial matrix: matrix around the isogenous groups, contains LESS collagen
2) interterritorial matrix: matrix between isogenous groups.
which cartilage matrix type contains less collagen? How can you tell them apart?
territorial matrix around isogenous groups. territorial matrix is more basophilic, i.e. it stains darker. The remainder of the matrix is called the interterritorial matrix.
2 types of cartilage growth and location
1) interstital: mitotic division from pre-existing chondrocytes FROM THE MIDDLE. Location: early cartilage formation, in epiphyseal plates, in articular cartilage
2) APPOSITIONAL. growth from the surface. Chondrogenic cytes differentiate from mesenchyme into chondroblasts that secrete NEW matrix on the SURFACE of cartiage.
