Schizophrenia:
What are the three categories of schizophrenia symptoms?
A
- ## Spectrum of disorders involving psychotic symptoms ( distorted thoughts, perceptions, and/or emotions)2.)
Positive symptoms: Addition of unwanted cognitions or behaviors.
-hallucinations: extremely vivid, false perceptual experiences.
-Delusions: irrational beliefs or irrational beliefs of yourself and others. EX: people are out to get you.

Does Schizophrenia have a biological component?
A
Yes but,
- It doesn’t mean that an individual will has a gene that causes schizophrenia
- Family history doesn’t mean an individual will develop schizophrenia

What is the most common model for schizophrenia manifest.
A
- Diathesis-Stress Model: in order for someone to develop schizophrenia you must have a genetic predisposition and be exposed to environmental stressors.

Personality disorders?
A
- disorders involving poor judgement disrupted social relationships, emotional problems, and a lack of impulse control.
- Not just scoring “ low” on personality test.

Antisocial Personality disorder?
A
A lack of conscience, no sense of responsibility to others, or no respect for social norms.
- Often seem very calm in situations that would be upsetting to most other people.
- Not the same as just “ being strong” ( appears more like not caring).

Narcissistic personality disorder?
A
involves an exaggerated sense of self-importance
- compulsive need for attention and/or preoccupation with fantasies of success or power.
- not the same as narcissisms as a “normal” personality trait.

Borderline personality disorder?
A
- High levels of instability and impulsive behavior
- unpredictable mood swings
-Unstable interpersonal relationships
: intense attachment, coupled with fear and anger over perceived “rejection” - may involve substance abuse
- reckless behavior
-self harm or possible suicidal behavior
