What is Wallenberg syndrome? What artery is it associated with?

A

due to stroke of PICA

‘PICA VASpHNA’

ispilateral signs -

  1. cerebellar signs (inferior cerebellar peduncle)
  2. vertigo, nausea vomitting, nystagmus – (vestibular n.)
  3. paralysis of larynx, phaynx, palate – (NA)
  4. pain and temp loss form face (spinal trigemn n)
  5. horners syndrome (HRST)

contralateral

  1. pain and temp loss from body

What is medial medullary syndrome? what are the signs and symptoms

A

stroke of anterior spinal

contralateral

  1. spastic paresis (pyramid)
  2. loss of epicritic (medial lemniscus)

ipsilateral -

  1. flaccid paralysis of the tongue (hypoglossal nucleus)

A

due to lesion of Paramedian branches of Basialr artery

contralateral

  1. spastic hemiparsis (corticospinalt ract)
  2. loss of epicritic (medial lemniscus)

ipsilateral

  1. internal strabismus (abduscens)

What is lateral pontine syndrome?

A

due to lesion of AICA

ipsilateral

  1. cerebellar signs (middle cerebellar peduncle)
  2. facial paralysis, loss of taste, hyperacusis (facial n.)
  3. pain and temp loss on face (spinal trigem)
  4. hearing loss (cochlear n.)
  5. horners (HRST)

contralateral –

  1. pain and temp loss from body

A

clot blocking basialr and its branches (including PCA)

sx

  • bilateral blindess (occipital)
  • memory loss (temporal)
  • somatosensory loss (thalamus)
  • coma and death? (reticular?)
