What are the symptoms of salmonella and why are they caused?

A

People with salmonella can suffer fevers, stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea which are caused by toxins that the bacteria produce and disrupting the bacteria balance in our guts

What is gonorrhoea?

A

An STD which can cause infertility and ectopic pregnancies. Caused by unprotected sexual contact. Symptoms are different coloured discharge from penis or vagina but sometimes their are no symptoms. Antibiotics help prevent it.

A

By eating food that was contaminated with it. It is found in raw meat, egg. Eating undercooked food as the bacteria has not been killed off

How can gonorrhoea be prevented?

A

Originally gonorrhoea was prevented by penicillin but now resistant strains have grown. People can be treated with antibiotics or barrier methods of contraception used

Why is Agrobacterium tumefaciens useful for gm crops?

A

It inserts plasmids into plant cells to cause a mass of undifferentiated gm cells to grow. Scientists can give added genes to the bacteria to gm the plant in other ways
