B8.2/3/4 - More Photosynthesis Flashcards
What are the limiting factors in photosynthesis
Light intensity, temperature, level of carbon dioxide amount of chlorophyll
What do plants use glucose produced through photosynthesis for?
To convert insoluble starch for storage, to produce fats and oils for storage, to produce cellulose to strengthen the cell walls, to produce amino acids used to make proteins
What do plants need nitrate ions for?
It’s absorbed from the soil of water to make the amino acids used to make proteins.
What is the greenhouse affect?
Means the environment is much more controllable than in an ordinary garden or field
Why is a greenhouse so affective?
The atmosphere is warmer, so plants grow faster, flower and fruit earlier, and crop better
What is the name of the system where you can control temperature, light intensity and carbon dioxide?
A hydroponics system
