• Conduct scene survey for safety
• Minimize exposure of personnel and resource commitment
• Stretch a charged hose line with attached fog nozzle primarily for Decon, the line can also be used for vapor dispersal and fire suppression in case of ignition or explosion
• Ventilate vehicle or occupancy prior to entering
• Avoid disturbing the container, generally found in a bucket
• FDNY’s primary mission is life safety, remove the patient from the hazardous environment and check for responsiveness, if unresponsive, and the assessment meets FDNY criteria for presumed death, handle body as part of the crime scene investigation
• Remove clothing and flush with copious amounts of water as part of emergency Decon before transport
• When available, use meters to monitor oxygen levels and other hazardous levels
