An ABR IN PROCESS SCHOOL is
Not substantially in compliance with FP Dir 2/84
May have non ambulatory students FLS below/above 1st floor
Individual Safety Plan (ISP) required in addition to regular fire drill
An ABR school is
School that has one or more non ambulatory students
Contains required holding area
Has written fire drill and evacuation plan
Substantial or complete appliance with FP Dir 2/84
NON-ABR SCHOOLS
- Schools are without plans for compliance with FP Dir 2/84 in the near future
- May have non ambulatory pupils on FLS below/above 1st FL
- ISP is required for these children in addition to regular fire drill
“ABR IN PROCESS” and “NON ABR” schools will be operating under the
ISP concept. In these schools a member or members of the school staff will be responsible for each student who cannot remove himself. The plan might require the staff members to attempt evacuation or proceed to a “safe area” pending FDNY arrival
The ISP for each student will be carried
On the person who is in charge of that student
The ISP plan contains
- Name of student
- Location of student in the building throughout the school day
- Name of staff member designated to evaluate that student
- Name of back up staff member in the event the designated staff member is absent or out of the building
The 1st officer to arrive shall
Immediately contact the principle or person in charge regarding the status and/or location of all non ambulatory students for action and/or relay to the officer in command on his arrival
