If an incident becomes more severe than originally stated, or if technical information is required, the Chief officer can
Telephone the Con Edison Shift Manager directly to request assistance. The Chief officer at the scene can accomplish this via cell phone. A dedicated FDNY telephone number installed at each of the regional control centers has been established for this purpose.
Con Edison dispatches an emergency crew expeditiously as possible on what codes
10-25 Code 1 (Communicates to the building) Code 4 (Transformer fire)
The Guidelines to be followed for this procedure are as follows
At all incidents transmit the appropriate radio code and request Con Edison response.
What happens if Con Edison’s ETA is not satisfactory to the Chief because of conditions at the scene
The Chief can call the respective areas Electric Control Center Shift Manager to clarify the condition
What if conditions worsen while waiting for the emergency crew
Call the respective areas Electric Control Centers Shift Manager with an updated report and explain the need for priority response. An updated progress report must also be transmitted to the dispatcher
If technical information is required to assist with tactical decisions
Call the Electric Control Center Shift Manager for advice and assistance
Some conditions that might require a call to a Con Edison Shift Manager
- Fire conditions becomes more severe than originally reported
- Dangerous CO conditions in surrounding properties
- Additional manholes or equipment showing activity
- Transformer fire affecting several occupancies
- Sensitive or high profile occupancy
For incidents involving Con Edison substations (these types of facilities do not fall under the jurisdiction of the Electric Control Center) call the
Con Edison Substation Shift Manager

May not be staffed during an FDNY response. The Chief should then contact the Substation Shift Manager

If a situation escalates to involve several occupancies or if the condition affects a large area FDNY should contact

Con Edison telephone numbers should be
Programmed into the Battalion cell phones. Con Edison has the cell phone numbers for each battalion in the event they need to speak to the on site Battalion Chief.
