The 1st full week of may each year DC shall cause all engine and squad companies to obtain pressure readings on the hydrants nearest their quarters. Each calendar day starting Sunday to Saturday readings will be taken at approx
1000 1300 1600 1900 2200 All readings shall be recorded on the Hydrant Pressure Chart CD-65
After completion of the hydrant pressure chart what does the engine company or squad do next
CD-65 will be posted at the house watch desk throughout the summer season. This chart will be near the Rad chart
Phase 1 constitutes a
Water pressure Alert
During the water pressure alert what do ALL UNITS have to do
Starting at 1000 hours all units shall take and record pressure on the hydrant nearest quarters EVERY HOUR UNTIL 2200 hours
Within 1 hour of the phase 1 announcement of a water pressure alert battalion chiefs shall
Leave quarters and physically survey their districts to observe and note the number and location of illegally opened hydrants. Battalion chiefs may schedule units to assist in this survey.
During phase 1 of the water pressure alert battalion chiefs shall notify the DC of their division of the pressure in hydrants recorded by their units and
Recommend a Phase 2 be implemented if warranted.
All notifications made during a Phase 1 water emergency alert shall be made via
Fax
Phase 2 is implemented for a
Water Pressure Emergency. Units shall patrol their district as per schedules established by the DC, and shall shut down and/or place spray caps unless a serious confrontation will result.
Whenever a hydrant is shut down during the water pressure emergency the
Location and condition of the hydrant shall be recorded by completing a “water pressure emergency/hydrant shutoff report”
CD-64. The officer on duty may require the firefighter who shut down and/or inspected the hydrant to enter the required information on form CD-64
The CD-64 will be
Faxed to DEP. If the hydrant is found defective it is NOT necessary to also complete a Defective Hydrant report CD-63
Upon completion of assigned patrol duties during a water pressure emergency the OOD shall fax to the battalion
# of illegally opened hydrants # of hydrants shut down # of spray caps placed Any areas experiencing dangerously low water pressures that could adversely affect firefighting operations
How often during a phase 2 water pressure emergency does the BC provide the administrative DC the information
