AUC 338 APPLICATION OF WATER ON ENERGIZED ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT Flashcards
Hand lines shall
NEVER be used on ENERGIZED components at Con Edison facilities
FDNY priority at these responses is to
Apply water streams via master stream to the exposed, unaffected equipment to save it
Who may authorize the use of a water stream application at this event
Staff Chief in consultation with the Con Ed White Hat or a DC acting as Car 421 or 422
Can salt water be used in case we need to draft
NEVER used for applying water on LIVE ELECTRICAL components
The possibility of run off water being electrically charged is
Extremely remote
FDNY members shall never enter a
Con Ed facility unless escorted by a qualified Con Ed personnel and with the approval of the IC
Members shall not touch, move or adjust any part of a
LCS device while delivering water to energized electrical components
The hydrant to be used and the hose and appliance must
Be flushed thoroughly to clear all sediment and scale, which may increase electrical conductivity
When positioning apparatus avoid
Low spots
No additives including any type of
Foam shall be used
Fog streams are poor
Conductors of electricity and are therefore the preferred water stream pattern.
The desired fog pattern is
30 degrees or greater
Fog streams can be greatly affected by wind conditions and may not reach the target area from a distance of 15 or 25 feet. In these situations
A straight stream utilizing the fog tip or a solid stream shall be used and the stand off distances increased
Who will be present to ensure that members and equipment maintain the required minimum safe operating distances from energized equipment
Con Edison personnel
The distance that need to be maintained between the substations exterior fence and the TL bucket/boom is
18 feet
