PFD’s must be inflated
Manually by a member ONLY AFTER EXITING the aircraft.
Mustang survival MD 3085 PFD’s are being issued to all units involved in the FDNY Air Support Plan. The PFD’s must be donned by members
Prior to boarding any NYPD aircraft.
To manually inflate the PFD
- Pull the activation tag. The PFD should fully inflate within 5 seconds and the rapid fire strobe light should activate
- If the PFD doesn’t inflate within this time then the member must use the oral inflation tube to inflate the PFD
- If the rapid fire automatic strobe light does not activate upon PFD inflation, than the member must pull in the black cord located underneath the strobe light.
Ensure the service indicator on the PFD is what color prior to donning

- Identification of the Attack and Evacuation Stairs
- Identification of the stairs that lead to the roof
