Attributes of God Flashcards

Q

The solitariness of God

A

God existed alone before time itself and was/is self-contained, self-sufficient, and self-satisfied, in need of nothing

(Mal 3:6)
God’s essential nature does not change and so cannot be augmented or diminished

He made creation for his own good pleasure, and not because he needed anything “worketh all things after the counsel of His own will” (Eph 1:11). “according to the good pleasure of His will.” (Ephesians 1:5)

Rom 34-35
We cannot bring God under obligation of the creature

We cannot take away or add anyting to God through our worship or obedience “When ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants” (Luke 17:10)

He is solitary in His majesty, unique in His excellency, peerless in His perfections. He sustains all, but is Himself independent of all. He gives to all, but is enriched by none.
