ANTIBIOTICS - ANTIHELMINTHICS Flashcards
DOC for Strongyloides
Ivermectin
DOC for Enterobius
Pyrantel pamoate / metronidazole
DOC for filariasis
Diethycarbamazine (DEC)
MOA of albendazole
Inhibits microtubule assembly. Larvicidal and ovicidal.
Uses of albendazole
Ascariasis, Hookworm, Pinworm, Hydatid disease (drug of choice), Whipworm infections, Cutaneous & Visceral Larva migrans, Cysticercosis (larval stages of T. solium), Angiostrongylus cantonensis, Capillaria philippinensis
MOA of Mebendazole
Selectively inhibits microtubule synthesis and glucose uptake in nematodes. Ovicidal.
DOC for Whipworms
MEBENDAZOLE
DOC of Trichinosis
THIABENDAZOLE
MOA of DEC
Immobilizes microfilariae (by an unknown mechanism) and alters their surface structure → more susceptible to host defense mechanisms
DOC of Eye worm disease (Loa Loa)
DEC
MOA of Ivermectin
Intensifies GABA-mediated neurotransmission nematodes. Immobilizes parasites.
DOC for Fasciola hepatica
Bithionol or triclabendazole
DOC for Schistosoma
Praziquantel
DOC for cysticercosis and echinococcus granulosus
ALbendazole
DOC for tapeworms except Cysticercosis and hydatid disease
praziquantel
