What is the anatomical position?
Face forward
Arms by your side with palms facing forward
Lower limbs closer together with feet parallel
Medial
Middle
Superior and inferior
Superior = above the middle
Inferior = below the middle
Posterior and lateral
Posterior= towards the middle
Lateral= away from the middle
Anterior and posterior
Anterior = front
Posterior = back
Cranial
Skull
Caudal
Towards the hands
Dorsal
The back of an animal
Ventral
Abdominal wall
Superficial and intermediate and deep
Superficial = surface wound
Intermediate= between superficial and deep
Deep= further from the surface
Radial and ulnar
Radial = towards the outside
Ulnar=towards the inside
Extension and flexion
Extension= make longer
Flexion = makes shorter
Abduction and adduction
Abduction = to take away from the middle (for eg: lifting the leg takes it away from the middle)
Adduction= to bring back to the middle (foreg: bring the leg back down)
Supine and prone
Supine= lying on your back
Prone-lying on your front
