Benazepril Captopril Enalapril Lisinopril Ramipril
Indications
Treatment of HTN, CHF, diabetic nephropathy, left ventricular dysfunction following an MI
Mechanism of Action
Blocks ACE from converting angiotensin I to angiotensin II, leading to a decrease in blood pressure, a decrease in aldosterone production, and a small increase in serum potassium levels along with sodium and fluid loss
Contraindications
Allergies
Impaired renal function
Pregnancy/lactation
Adverse Effects
r/t effects of vasodilation and alterations in blood flow
GI irritation
Renal insufficiency
Cough
Drug-Drug Interactions
Allopurinol
Assessment
HX: allergy, pregnancy/lactation
Impaired kidney function, salt/volume depletion, heart failure
Physical: Baseline; lung sounds, bowel sounds, weight, skin, vitals, and ECG
Labs: CBC and electrolytes
